POEMS BY L. GREY

Untitled

August 22, 2011 (age 8)

With every day must come a dusk

With every night must come a dawn

For every angel and every devil has their own sort of way.

So, when I float up to the sky

Please sing to me

Just the way I sing to you

One note at a time.

I’m telling you please listen so

Every angel, every devil, has their own sort of way

For every dusk must come a night

And in that night I shall float all the way up into the clouds we look upon

And when I do please do not fight it

Just sing to me the way I sing to you

One note at a time.

Nipula

January 30, 2011 (age 8)

It cannot be life

Of the vibrations they come

Over a force they leap and twirl

Many rise, many pray

No, no, God, we're OK.

Leave the creatures of earth at their own level

They will rise to only the vibrations of love

When time ends.

I Write

May 27, 2016 (age 13)

I write because it hurts.

I write to soothe the pain.

I do it to become somebody who isn’t me, in a world that isn’t mine.

I write so the way I lived and the things I thought don’t die with me.

I write to express and repress

I do it to shape the future and mend the past.

I write because if I didn’t, I’d be empty.

I write so I can be immortal

I write because a blank page will always understand me.

L Grey - L, who’s at the center of the book, was determined to tell her own story. Precocious, courageous, and inspirational, L was wise beyond her years. She wrote with furious conviction about being misunderstood and seldom believed, being wheelchair-bound and then bedridden, and about dealing with constant, torturous physical pain. Nevertheless, L’s writing shows pure resiliency in its empathy, strength and forgiveness.
